The University of Nottingham set out a vision to consolidate its position as a leading institution for research into aerospace technologies and invest in infrastructure to further respond to grow its research portfolio in line with industrial demands.

To allow for future growth and to address the most critical issues facing the aerospace sector, the University established the Institute for Aerospace Technology to provide a focus for our aerospace activities, to facilitate increased activity and deliver impact from our research by creating a streamlined pipeline from basic (TRL 1-3) to applied (TRL 4-6) research, the latter in close collaboration with our strategic partners.

This has resulted in an investment of £8.8million, including University investment of £3.1million in new equipment and infrastructure for basic research, and £5.7million in the establishment of the Aerospace Technology Centre, a dedicated research and knowledge transfer facility, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, which will support Technology Readiness Levels 4-6.
